Head of Purchasing (m/w/d)

Job description, responsibilities and duties

a) Set up and develop a purchasing strategy:

  • Develop the purchasing policy for the company and ensure its implementation across different sites.
  • Establish objectives for the group and ensure their implementation across different sites.
  • Anticipate future developments in the medium and long term for the purchasing strategy.
  • Make strategic trade-offs and reallocate resources, including human, financial, deadlines, and material, based on the established strategy and purchasing policy outcomes.

b) Manage the purchasing system:

  • Control procurement volume to optimize costs and efficiency.
  • Monitor and develop relationships with suppliers to ensure a reliable supply chain.
  • Manage information exchange with external providers.
  • Monitor and address issues related to non-conforming suppliers.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with local procedures.
  • Follow the approval procedure for procurement scopes.
  • Handle crisis situations related to product development or mass production.
  • Stay updated on regulatory and organizational changes.
  • Define purchasing and supply chain management training orientations.
  • Review contract legal and technical aspects to ensure compliance.

c) Manage the budget and be its guarantor:

  • Take responsibility for managing and monitoring the budget of the Purchasing Department
  • Oversee the transport budget and related expenses.

d) Manage, lead the team, and organize activities and training:

  • Regularly communicate progress and indicators to the higher-ups.
  • Handle human resources management for the purchasing department, including recruitment, training, and evaluations, in collaboration with the HR department.
  • Lead, supervise, and participate in quality and continuous improvement action plans.
  • Oversee the preparation and monitoring of the skills plan, making necessary adjustments.
  • Coordinate and supervise the organization of teams across different sites.

Personality requirements and skills

  • Education: Follow-up/Higher Professional Education, University education (Bachelor’s degree), University education (Master’s degree), or Postgraduate (Doctorate) in Mechanical Engineering, Production, Automotive Industry, or Electrotechnical Industry.
  • Language Skills: Advanced proficiency (C1) in English
  • Other Knowledge: Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Driving License: B category.
  • Experience: At least 10 years of significant experience in a similar function.
  • Personality Requirements and Skills: Strong negotiation and communication skills, entrepreneurial thinking, analytical and strategic thinking, e-procurement, controlling, knowledge of (global) procurement markets, quality management, leadership skills, organizational talent, efficient time management, ability to work under pressure and flexibility, teamwork and network skills.
